The Woodhouse is part of a small community situated on a headland of the north-west Duirnish peninsula, overlooking Dunvegan Head and the Outer Hebrides.
From London, the drive takes around 14-15 hours. We drive with small children and, with an early start, this usually takes us one and a half days.
A ferry runs from Mallaig (Scottish mainland) to Armadale (Skye). Check weather and timetable for crossings and be sure to book ahead in summer holidays. The ferry runs twice a day in the winter - weather dependent.
Alternatively, you can cross the Skye bridge from the Kyle of Lochalsh (mainland) to Broadford (Skye).
The Woodhouse is about a one hour drive from Broadford, one and a half from Armadale.
We'll send you detailed directions to the Woodhouse once you've made your booking.
Or you can fly to Inverness (Easyjet/ BMI), car hire/drive (3 hours)
Fly to Glasgow (Ryanair), car hire/drive (6 hours)
Overnight train from Euston to Fort William (Scotrail), car hireSupplies
We recommend you stop in Broadford for food and wine supplies for your first two to three days. There's an excellent local Co-op next to the petrol station. Once you arrive at the Woodhouse the last thing you'll feel like doing is going shopping.
The nearest small local shop is at Glendale (2 miles). There is a small but very lovely fruit/veg/basic healthfood shed in Dunvegan (10.5 miles) and a general store that sells a bit of everything - including beer and wine. The nearest large Co-op supermarket is at Portree ( 30 miles). A local farmer sells some meat and venison.
